Product description

The scar of the death of Onno Blom | Hardcover 1168 pages

Netherlands was Jan Wolkers and Jan Wolkers was Netherlands. His artistry grew out of anger against the God of his father reformed in Oegstgeest, flourished in Amsterdam, and harmony found on Texel. His novels were reviled, praised and awarded. Worldwide, hundreds of thousands of copies were sold of American Short, A rose of flesh and Turkish delight.

Wolkers was trained as a sculptor. He made many sculptures in bronze and glass, and left after a magnificent oeuvre of colorful paintings. As he sculpted with words, he wrote with paint.

More than ten years worked for Onno Blom Wolkers' biography. Based on a wealth of material he paints a rebellious, obsessive and sensual life in the grip of love and death. Wolkers had tempestuous relationships with women and girls. The death of his elder brother and his two year old daughter kept him until his last day as demons haunting.

In addition to accessible 'people issue' a luxury edition published in cassette, containing the biography of a bound edition, a bound picture book with life and work of Jan Wolkers using photographs, portraits, artwork and personal documents, and a facsimile print of a self-portrait of Jan Wolkers 1945.
